Press Release - Collaboration at the core of BACO discussions with Attorney General

The Executive Committee of The Bahamas Association of Compliance Officers led by President Mrs. Maria Dorsett paid a courtesy call on the Attorney General, Senator L. Ryan Pinder on February 10, 2022.

At the top of the discussions was BACO's path to self-regulation. A Self-Regulatory Organization (SRO) bill was drafted several years ago and is currently under review. In addition to the many benefits that SRO status will bring to the compliance function in The Bahamas, the Bahamas Association of Compliance Officers would be the first compliance association in the Caribbean region to pursue this path.

Moreover, as a part of our strategic partnership with the government and regulators, BACO is meeting with the Attorney General to promote our jurisdiction as a robust but inviting regulatory environment that has long-term benefits for potential and current investors. “We are committed to continuing our relationship with policymakers during the evolution of the financial services industry," said Dorsett.
